The giant public rally of Trinamool Congress at Nityanandapur of Old Malda today that was organised to give a reply to BJP president Amit Shah's rally  at the same venue on January 22 turned into the debut rally of Mausam Benazir Noor as a Trinamool Congress leader.
Noor, a Congress MP from Malda North and niece of legendary leader from Malda A. B. A. Ghani Khan Chaudhury switched to TMC three days back.
Noor, along with minister for environment and transport  Suvendu Adhikari, were among those who addressed the rally.
Others who attended the rally included minister for tourism  Gautam Deb, minister for North Bengal development  Rabindranath Ghosh, ministers of state – Bachchu Hansda, Zakir Hossain, Golam Rabbani and Shyamal Santra, to name a few.
Although all the ministers earned huge applause from more than 1.5 lakh Trinamool supporters who participated in the rally, it was Adhikari and Noor who snagged the biggest applause.
While explaining the reason of her defecting to Trinamool Noor said that she had found the right successor of her uncle late Ghani Khan Choudhury only in Mamata Banerjee. “Both Ghani uncle and Mamata Didi mean development. Hence, to fight against a communal virus like BJP, Mamata Banerjee’s development is the only way out,” Noor said.
The  former Congress leader also blamed the state unit of the Congress saying that despite the liberal approach of AICC towards poll-alliance with Trinamool, the state Congress leadership showed a mysteriously stern approach against the alliance. “Hence, Trinamool was the only destination for me as I like to go all out to oust BJP from power,” she said.
Suvendu Adhikari said that well ahead of parliamentary polls in 2009 and assembly polls in 2016 Trinamool supremo even before the official publication of the list of party candidates had declared his name in public meetings.
“This time Mausam Noor’s name has been declared as the party candidate from Malda North parliamentary constituency. This declaration of our supreme leader shows her faith in the descendant of late Ghani Khan. So, our primary objective is to fullfil Mamata Banerjee’s dream by getting Noor elected as a Trinamool MP by a huge margin,” Adhikari urged party supporters.
Deb, Ghosh and other ministers too appealed to the audience to elect Noor by an unprecedented margin in parliamentary election.
Although all the speakers spoke against BJP at length, the centre of the speeches was the appeal to get Noor elected  from Malda.
Adhikari, in his speech, attacked BJP severely too and declared that Trinamool would be holding mega  rallies in North Dinajpur where Uttar Pradesh CM Yogi Adityanath is set to attend a public meeting in first week of February. Another meeting will  be held in east Midnapore district too where Amit Shah addressed a rally on January 29, Adhikari said. (EOIPC)
