A youth is on the verge of losing vision of his right eye following an attack by some miscreants as he had protested against abuse of his wife by those goons. His brother was seriously injured too in the attack. Two brothers are under treatment in Malda Medical College and Hospital (MMCH). The incident took place at Dhantala village of Kotowali gram panchayet under English Bazaar police station around 10 pm last night. The housewife lodged complaint against 10 persons.
According to police sources, Pabitra Das (35) had a shardp injury on his right eyeball. His brother Sufal Das (32) was injured too. Dr Jyotish Das, deputy super of MMCH said that condition of Pabitra Das’s right eye was critical.
Rita Das (name changed), the molested housewife alleged that Samar Das, Sundar Das and their henchmen used to abuse her for long. Protests never yielded any result. “Last evening when I was returning from a grocer shop, Samar, Sundar and others in a drunken state started pulling my hands and even threatened to kidnap me. I was scared and reported the incident to my husband and other family members,” the housewife said.
“When my husband and his brother went to protest against my molestation, the goons led by Samar and Sundar attacked them with sharp and heavy weapons. They grievously injured my husband’s right eye. Our yell gathered the neighbours and the goons retreated. Later, my husband and his brother had to be admitted to MMCH,” she added.
However, none has been arrested even almost after 24 hours of the incident. The housewife and her family members alleged that the miscreants were threatening with dire consequences if the complaint against them was not withdrawn.
Arnab Ghosh, the superintendent of police said, “Police have already visited the spot in search of the accused. Soon they would be arrested.”
