Malda: Road-accident injures 12

As many as 12 passengers were injured as a Siliguri bound air-conditioned deluxe bus overturned and fell into a roadside ditch near Kamlabari village beside NH-34 around 3 am today. Injuries of four passengers including the conductor of the bus were reported to be grievous while the others were released after rendering primary treatments at Malda Medical College & Hospital (MMCH). Some passengers alleged that in the disguise of rescuers some locals had stolen their money and other valuables. A team from English Bazaar police station rescued the injured passengers. It has been learnt from police sources that the bus was going from Kolkata to Siliguri. There were 30 passengers in the bus at the time of the accident. Manab Das, a student-passenger said that a sudden jerk woke up the passengers up and they found the bus in a ditch. Police apprehended that the drowsiness of the driver towards early morning caused the accident. (EOIC)
