Yet another minor girl has become a victim of brutal torture in Malda. A student of class IX, the minor girl of Raipara village under Ratua police station went missing from Monday evening. She was allegedly kidnapped, raped and being trafficked by her cousin. This morning while she was allegedly being taken to Harischandrapur, the boatman and other passengers rescued the minor girl and handed over to police. The girl’s father lodged a written police complaint against four persons including Mohammed Zakir Sheikh, her cousin brother.
It has been learnt from police sources that a daily wage earner registered a missing diary on last Monday informing that his daughter went missing. Police started searches for the girl accordingly. But this morning she was found in a boat going to Harischandrapur from Gobra Haat area in Ratua. The boatman and other passengers handed her over to police. Later, the father of the girl identified her.
In her statement to police the girl said that Mohammed Zakir Sheikh with the excuse of visiting their relative’s house in Harischandrapur took her to Samsi and other places. On Tuesday evening, Zakir raped her in a desolate jute-field threatening her with a sharp weapon. He was allegedly accompanied by three others who too threatened the girl to keep her mouth shut. According to the girl, they were talking about selling her somewhere in Bihar.
This morning when she was being taken to Harischandrapur adjacent to Bihar by Zakir and three of his henchmen, a quarrel started among them. The boatman and other passengers became suspicious hearing the content of their conversation and started asking the girl her whereabouts. It was then the girl broke out in tears. Understanding the girl’s catastrophe, the boatman and the passengers chased Zakir and his gang. They had fled from the boat before it left. The girl was later handed over to police.
Haradhan Deb, officer-in-charge of Ratua police station said, “We have received a written complaint from the girl’s father. A probe has been started. The minor girl would be sent for a medical test immediately.”
