Villagers demonstrated with black ribbons on their faces against the alleged police inaction in rape case of a minor girl. The parents of the minor also met the superintendent of police Arnab Ghosh and chairman of district child welfare committee (CWC) Chaitali Sarkar seeking their intervention to ensure justice to the minor rape-victim.
It has been alleged by residents  of Shersahi village under Kaliachak police station that the minor girl was raped by her neighbour Taimur Momin who lured her with chocolates on June 24.
“She was playing alone in front of her house. Momin took her to his house alluring her with a chocolate and then raped her. The devastated child fell sick and told her plight to parents. A written police complaint was lodged. But even after three weeks no police action has been taken. The accused has not yet been arrested,” said a villager.
After learning about the account of the minor girl’s parents CWC chairman asked police to probe into the matter immediately and arrest the accused. “This is a serious issue. The baby should get justice. I have told police to ensure exemplary punishment of the culprit,” Chaitali Sarkar said.
Arnab Ghosh, SP, Malda said, “Kaliachak police have been directed to submit a report of progress of the probe quickly. Strong action would be taken in this regard.” (EOIPC)
