Police launch thorough probe to crack bank-robbery case, few persons detained

Police detained few persons in connection with the daring robbery at Sujapur branch of a nationalized bank yesterday in broad daylight. However, none was officially declared arrested so far. Meanwhile, it has been learnt from some officials of the bank that over Rs 32 lakh was looted by the robbery gang from the bank. Police have launched extensive probe to arrest the robbers and to recover the large amount of cash looted.
Additional SP (Rural) Dipak Sarkar said, “Nothing can be said immediately about the incident. But a thorough probe is underway.”
It has been learnt from police sources that the alley along which the robbery-gang scampered away was being examined. Besides, footages available from some of the CCTVs are being looked into.
It may be mentioned that the a gang of seven robbers entered the nationalized bank’s Sujapur branch under Kaliachak police station around 1.30 pm yesterday and looted over Rs 32 lakh keeping the branch manager, cashiers and other employees at the gun point. Looting the cash with 15-20 minutes the gang fled away along an alley adjacent to the bank.
Police rushed to the spot immediately and started the probe. Chief regional manager of the bank Amarendra Roy said, “In our primary estimate Rs 32.9 lakh was looted by the robbers. Police have been probing into the matter. We hope that the business of the bank would be regularized from Monday.” (EOIC)
