Police officer attacked by extortionists in Malda

Miscreants and extortionists attacked and stoned at Subir Sarkar, officer-in-charge (OC) of Bhaluka police outpost under Harischandrapur police station in a fair organized on account of immersion of the Goddes Durga recently. The injured police official was admitted to local hospital first and later referred to Malda medical college a& hospital for better treatment.
Police arrested one Baishitya Ojha for masterminding the attack on the OC.
It has been learnt from police sources that Ojha and his henchman Indrajit Ojha used run a syndicate of extortion at Bhaluka area. They used to extort money from traders and common people. Soon after taking up charge of Bhaluka police outpost Sarkar took stern action to thwart the extortion-racket. Police think that the attack was made to avenge the police action against extortion.
Witnesses said that when Sarkar was maintaining law and order at the large gathering in a fair, the culprits first pelted stones targetting him. Later, they attacked him with heavy weapons.
Sajalkanti Biswas, the sub divisional police officer of Chanchal informed one of the accused was arrested. “We are comb-hunting for other culprits too on the basis of written complaint lodged by the injured police officer,” Biswas added. (EOIC)
