With an eye to booting morale of the police officials the superintendent of police Arnab Ghosh felicitated five police officers of the district in a symposium organized by the district police at Malda College auditorium on the first day of the year. An introspection session was also held to review the performance of police in the bygone year.

Ghosh, the SP, Malda also greeted the officials of his department for working with dedication in public service in the last year. He credited his department personnel for ensuring ‘zero’ illegal poppy cultivation in the district. It may be mentioned that poppy-menace marred the image of the district before. But since Ghosh assumed charge as the head of the district cops, he virtually declared war against illegal poppy cultivation in the district. Even at the prime season of the illegal practice, the poppy cultivation was reduced to zero in the current season as learnt from sources in the police department.

“We would like to put emphasis on missing cases and traffic safety this year with new dedication and energy. We should handle the human trafficking cases with strict priority as well,” Ghosh encouraged his colleagues. He also informed that speed-breakers would be laid at crucial traffic points in the district to significantly reduce the road-accidents.

“We have arrested 9,480 criminals last honoring the warrants issued against them. Additionally, 6,290 most wanted criminals were booked too. 170 firearms including two carbines were seized. 243 missing cases were registered last year. We are acting on those,” Ghosh said.

The SP greeted the residents of the district along with all the employees of the district police departments and their family members on the first day of the year. “Your cooperation would definitely make the district a safe and peaceful place to live in,” the SP said.
