SP leads probe of minor’s death after alleged rape, four detained

A team of senior police officials headed by SP, Malda Arnab Ghosh visited roof of the market complex where the body of a minor girl was found. The locals alleged that the minor girl was gang raped before being brutally killed. Though no written complaint was lodged, police started a suo motu case and detained four persons of the locality for interrogation.
It has been learnt from sources that the deceased minor girl Kusum Harijan, 10 went missing from last Tuesday. The girl’s family lived in Harischandrapur. But she used to live with her mother and her family at Samsi under Ratua police station. As the mother of the minor girl was imprisoned following a family feud, she was under the care of parents of her mother.
According to locals, body of the minor girl was found hanging near the gate to roof of Netaji market complex not very far from Samsi police outpost on Thursday night. They alleged that innumerable bottles of country liquor were found near the body. They alleged that the way the body was hanging that it looked like the girl was killed and hanged by goons who might have gang raped her.
After the death of her maternal grandfather Rambilas Harijan, who was a sweeper of local regulated market, Kusum was dependent on her grandmother Urmila who fed her by begging.
Sajalkanti Biswas, the sub divisional police officer of Chanchal said, “The body was sent for autopsy. A probe is underway. Four persons have been detained for primary interrogation. Details cannot be disclosed in the interest of the enquiry.” (EOIC)
