Suvendu, Madan commence rural poll campaign in Malda

MALDA
3 May 2018

State transport minister Suvendu Adhikary and former minister Madan Mitra kicked off electoral campaign for Trinamool Congress (TMC) for upcoming rural polls in the district today.
Taking a dig at BJP and other Opposition parties, the senior TMC leaders alleged that Opposition leaders were rushing to court out of the scare of imminent defeat in the ensuing panchayet polls. Soon after arriving in Malda in the morning, Adhikary and Mitra met English Bazaar MLA and civic body chairman Nihar Ghosh, who is confined to home after a surgery at this crucial hour. Senior TMC leaders discussed political situation in the district with Ghosh and then headed to Kaliachak to address a mega public meeting at Karbala ground of Sujapur.
Dr Moazzem Hossain, district TMC president, Dulal Sarkar district working president and vice chairman of civic body, Amlan Bhaduri, district youth TMC president and other senior district workers accompanied Adhikary and Mitra throughout. “The only motto of BJP and other Opposition parties is to stall the rural polls anyhow. They know their imminent defeat cannot be prevented. Hence, they are rushing to ground with one excuse or the other so that the polls could be deferred,” Adhikary said. Without naming BJP leader Mukul Roy, Adhikary offered a reply to his criticism. “His language has also been changed after he had changed his political affiliation. In 2013 it was he who misled the then state election commissioner to defer the polls up to July. He has the same plan this time too,” Adhikary said. It may be mentioned that Roy, during his poll campaign for BJP in Malda on Wednesday said that state rural polls were being conducted by chief minister Mamata Banerjee and not the State Election Commission.
Meanwhile, district youth TMC general secretary and a councilor of English Bazaar civic body Prasenjit Das lodged a written complaint against Roy alleging that the BJP leader had deliberately violated model code of conduct by holding rallies of more than a hundred two-wheelers during poll campaign on Wednesday. Madan said that people had no confusion in re-electing TMC in state wide rural polls as development has got a new dimension under leadership of chief minister Mamata Banerjee. (EOIC)
