A teenager, suspected to be smuggler, was gunned down reportedly by border security force (BSF) personnel of 34 battalion at Daulatnagar village under Baishnabnagar police station early this morning. The deceased was identified as Aizul Sheikh, 17.
Although no official statement was made by the BSF authorities in this regard, it has been learnt from sources that arrangements were made to hand over Sheikh’s body to police for post mortem. It was also learnt that Sheikh along with a gang of smugglers assembled near fencing at India-Bangladesh international border at Daulatpur village. They were spotted by BSF personnel on duty and intercepted too.
Instead of scampering away as the BSF personnel chased them, the gang of smugglers reiterated the chase by BSF. The smugglers were reportedly carrying firearms and sharp weapons. In face of the attack of those smugglers, BSF had to open fire in self-defense. During the exchange of fire a bullet hit Sheikh and he died on spot. According to local sources, Sheikh got involved in crime since his tender age. He was nabbed few times in the past too and had some written allegations against him with police. (EOIC)
