Trinamool Congress leadership set a target for block leaders to ensure a gigantic crowd at the public meeting of state transport and environment minister Suvendu Adhikari on January 30 in Malda. Performances of Trinamool leaders in reaching the target would be under surveillance too. The meeting has been planned to counter the meeting of BJP’s national president Amit Shah on January 22. District Trinamool president Dr Moazzem Hossain has claimed that the turnout in Trinamool’s meeting would be three times larger than the crowd in Shah’s meeting.
Hossain, district working president Dulal Sarkar and other Trinamool leaders inspected the venue of the meeting today. They also met the elected members of Malda Zilla Parishad (MZP) and councilors of two civic bodies in Malda this afternoon to discuss how the meeting could be made successful.
“Our expectation is over 1.5 lakh Trinamool workers would turn up at the meeting. Along with all 15 blocks and two municipalities in English Bazaar, party supporters from Farakka and Samsherganj in Murshidabad district too would join the meeting. Those two areas are under Malda south parliamentary seat,”  Hossain said.
“Leaders at the grassroots have been asked to bring nearly a thousand supporters from each of 146 gram panchayet areas. Additionally, party workers from English Bazaar and Old Malda municipalities would come to the meeting also. Hence, we are confident that our expectations would be surpassed,” Trinamool district president said.
It is learnt from party sources that a few video photography agencies have been asked to record each of the rallies led by concerned MZP members, block presidents and observers would be under scanner. “If they fail to achieve the target, they may be reprimanded too,” said a senior party leader.
Sarkar said that there would be three stages at the venue. “Adhikari and other key-guests, MZP sabhadhipati MLAs and district committee members would be on the main stage. The second stage would be for MZP members and councilors of the civic bodies. Block presidents and heads of panchayet samities would be on the third stage,” he said.
The working president also said that nearly 400 buses were hired and similar number of small vehicles would also bring the party workers from all ends of the district to the venue.
Conceding that common people may face inconveniences in availing vehicles on the day of meeting Hossain today apologized in advance.
“The meeting is not a replica of BJP’s meeting. It is actually an effort to thwart the false allegations brought against Trinamool and Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee by Amit Shah,” he said.
It has been learnt from sources in Trinamool Congress that along with Adhikari, who is the observer for district party, three other ministers of states Bachchu Hansda, Golam Rabbani and Zakir Hossain are expected to attend the meeting also.
