Excitement gripped Jempur Colony area under Bamangola police station after a party office of Trinamool Congress was found ransacked today. Local Trinamool leaders blamed BJP backed goons for the incident. BJP, however, refuted the allegation and claimed that it was a consequence of Trinamool’s internal squabbling.
It has been learnt from sources that Trinamool and BJP locked horns over forming board at Gobindapur Maheshpur gram panchayet. Out of 15 seats of the said gram panchayet BJP won eight seats while Trinamool bagged seven.
Dulal Sarkar, vice-chairman of English Bazaar civic body and officiating district president of Trinamool alleged that BJP led goons were threatening the elected Trinamool members with dire consequences. “Our elected members were asked by BJP to support them in forming the board. As they refused to comply with BJP’s directive, the local party office was attacked and ransacked last night. We have lodged a written police complaint against BJP,” Sarkar said.
Ajit Das, a member of BJP state committee, however, rubbished the allegation. “Trinamool leaders are now frustrated as they could not win the panchayet. Clashes between two rival factions of Trinamool are a common experience of the locals. We guess that Trinamool office was attacked because of internal feud of the ruling party. Now, they are trying to save face by blaming BJP,” Das said. Police said that a probe was initiated into the incident. (EOIPC)
