Youth shot dead in Kaliachak

Kaliachak is back to violence as the process for rural body elections has already been initiated. A youth identified as Mijanur Rahman, 26 was shot dead at Madrasah Para area of Jalakandi village under Bamangram-Mosinpur gram panchayet in Kaliachak police station on Monday night.
Although some of the deceased’s family members alleged that he was a victim of factional clash of Trinamool Congress, Moazzem Hossain, district president of ruling party rubbished the allegation and said that Mijanur was killed by anti-socials sans connection with Trinamool. Abul Hayat, father of Rahman and former imam of a local mosque said that a scuffle over finalization of candidate in local panchayet seat between different factions of Trinamool turned violent and ended in firing. A bullet suddenly hit Rahman’s head while he was standing there as an onlooker, he claimed. Hayat denied any political connection with his family.
“Mijanur was elder of my four sons and worked as a pandal-builder. He was married and only earning member of the family,” Hayat, an inhabitant of Uttar Para locality at Jalakandi village said. As Mijanur fell down, members of a local club informed police and his family. Police rushed to the spot immediately and his family members took Rahman to Malda medical college & hospital. Doctors referred to him Kolkata. However, he succumbed to his injuries. Meanwhile, police have arrested Suktarul Alam and Masibar Ali in connection with the killing. Hossain said: “Our meeting at the locality to select candidate was over peacefully. It was then some miscreants indulged in firing to scare people and our workers. Their bullet killed the youth. We want arrest of the miscreants and stern action against them.” (EOIC)
