Cops in North Bengal districts campaign for minimizing accidents

Commencement of road safety week was observed across North Bengal with participations of people from all walks of the society today.
In Malda the key programme was held at Vrindavani ground in the morning by flying balloons in presence of top brass of district police and administrative officials. Arnab Ghosh, SP, Malda said, “We are happy with participation of students, teachers, other eminent personalities and common people. Road safety can be ensured with collective effort of road users. The week would be observed through numerous programmes encouraging people to adhere to safety norms.”
“Awareness and caution should go hand in hand to reduce road accidents drastically. We have applied both meticulously throughout the year and the effort yielded encouraging results,” the SP, Malda said.
Sujit Sarkar, DIG of police (Malda range), Kaushik Bhattacharya, DM, Malda and Ashish Kundu, chairman of district primary school council along with additional and deputy superintendents of police and inspector-in-charge of English Bazaar police station also joined a colourful rally that traversed along main streets bearing road safety slogans upon festoons and placards.
In Raiganj to the road safety week commencement programme was kicked off at Siliguri More where SP, North Dinajpur Shyam Singh along with his police brigade was present. Sandip Biswas, chairman of Raiganj civic body, his deputy Arindam Sarkar, Sankar Kundu, secretary of local merchants’ association and others participated in a rally.
“We have emphasized road safety as our priority programme. On one hand several programmes have been taken up to illustrate safety measures to road users and on the other we have imposed penalties upon law-breakers. North Dinajpur is the third highest penalty collector from traffic rules violators,” Singh said.
In Alipurduar the day was also observed with due importance by the district police. A rally that started from BM Club ground and ended at parade ground was joined by Avaru Rabindranath, chief of the district cops and other senior police officials. Voluntary organizations, students and representatives of different clubs participated in the rally too.
Rabindranath, SP, Alipurduar said, “All police stations in the district have been asked to observe road safety week campaigning extensively to alert the citizens to curb road accident cases.”
