Landslide in Mangan, 2 houses collapse

Following incessent and heavy rains on Tuesday, two houses collapsed in Mangan due to a landslide. One of them was an Indira Awas Yojona house of Passang Lepcha, the other was a kutcha house, a wooden structure, of Tshering Tamang
A team of officials, led by District Magistrate(North) Karma R. Bonpo inspected the spot on Wednesday and met members of the two affected families. The District Magistrate sanctioned a grant on the spot to the affected families to safer areas. Gram panchayat members accompanying the team also assured to allocate some grants as relief from their contingency funds in the presence of Block Development Officer Karma T. Denzongpa.
Up-adhyaksha (North) Thenee Bhutia directed the engineering cell of Prime Minister’s Gram
Sadak Yojana to restore the wall damaged by the landslide as soon as possible and to arrange for compensation for house damage in accordance with norms.
As the two affected families are now ensconed in a safer place, on the way the team also inspected the slide zone of Pakshep which falls on the highway connecting Mangan and Chungthang, a strategic road which is also in a critical condition. The D.M. has directed the Border Roads Organization to restore the road immediately and maintain it.
