3-day training in modern method of dairy farming

ICAR-Krishi Vigyan Kendra (CIARI), North & Middle Andaman organised a three-day training programme on “Scientific Practices in Dairy Farming” for farmers and farmwomen at Profullya Nagar recently which was inaugurated in the presence of Ms. Phoolmati Tirki, PRI-member, Profullyanagar-1, Gram Panchayat Basantipur, and Dr. Shailesh Kumar, Senior Scientist & Head (I/c), KVK, N & M Andaman. Ms. Tirki, motivated the farmers for adoption of improved practices in dairy farming and appreciated the initiative of Krishi Vigyan Kendra in dissemination of scientific information.
Dr. Shailesh Kumar highlighted the importance of dairying for the socio-economic uplift and asked the farmers to come forward for dairy farming. Dr. Shardul Vikram Lal, SMS (Animal Science)/ Course Coordinator discussed production and infertility in cattle advising farmers to provide balanced feed for sustainable production. Mr. Tanmai Paul, Farm Manager spoke on methods of fodder production and management in dairy cattle. Mr. D. Basantia asked the farmers to use agriculture bi-products like paddy straw, coconut cake etc for feeding cattle. Er. Manoj Kumar stressed upon the need for proper housing for cattle.
During the three-day training session, farmers were informed regarding all the aspects related to management of dairy cattle. In addition to this, simple and chelated mineral mixture was supplied to selected farmers for farm trials. Altogether 25 farmers and farmwomen participated and benefitted from this programme conducted under the supervision and guidance of Dr. Shailesh Kumar, Senior scientist and Head (I/c), ICAR-KVK and Dr. A. Kundu, Director, ICAR-CIARI.
