ACU arrests EE NACD Mayabunder on graft charges

Sleuths of the Anti-Corruption Unit (ACU) arrested the Executive Engineer of North Andaman Construction Division, Mayabunder on Monday for allegedly demanding and accepting illegal gratification in the form of tainted money. The corruption accused has been booked under relevant sections of the law and is likely to be produced before the Court of Law on Tuesday, according to sources.
Sources informed that an FIR was registered at PS Anti-Corruption Unit under relevant sections of the Prevention of Corruption Act after a written complaint was lodged by a private builder of Betapur region that the Executive Engineer, Jina Prakash was demanding bribe for clearance of payment bills. Subsequently, a trap team was formed which was led by Station House Officer, Jojo, other staff and independent witnesses. The team then left for the office of the Executive Engineer, NACD, Mayabunder, where the demanded bribe was to be paid to the alleged official.
On receipt of the approved signal from the complainant at around 9.50 am today, the trap team intercepted the accused officer and caught him red handed with the tainted money. After observing all codal formalities, he was arrested on the spot and brought to Police Station, Anti Corruption for further necessary action.
