Ceasework at Mayabunder Court

The advocates’ fraternity in the North Andaman region, Mayabunder has called for an indefinite strike from Monday to press for their demands. As per information, the lawyers association is aggrieved over non redressal of their grievances pertaining to shortage of clerical staff for the establishment of ADJ Court at Mayabunder, posting of public prosecutor in Additional Sessions Court Mayabunder, declaring North and Middle Andaman as separate judicial district and till then empowering ADJ Mayabunder with all the powers of the Sessions Judge under Code of Cr. P.C, in respect of cases and proceedings in the Criminal Courts in the sub-division of North and Middle Andaman District, for the purposes of subsection (7) of section 116, sections 193 and 194, clause (a) of section 209 and sections 409, 439 and 449 as done in the state of West Bengal by virtue of amendment to sub-section (3) of section 9 Cr.p.c, and wherein time bound request.
All our representations addressed to the Lt. Governor, Andaman & Nicobar Islands, Ld. District and Sessions Judge, A & N Islands, Port Blair, Chief Secretary, Deputy Commissioners of the North and Middle Andaman District as also to the Chief Justice of Calcutta High Court has failed to garner any positive response,” said a member of the association.
