The first month of 2017 is set to bring massive respite for the residents of the headquarter region of the North and Middle Andaman region. According to reports, the Andaman and Nicobar Islands Integrated Development Corporation (ANIIDCO) is likely launch the Petrol Fuelling Station at Mayabunder on the 23rd of this January and minor pending works are being executed on a fast pace. The current Adhyaksh of Zilla Parishad, North and Middle Andaman, Saw Tathu is being credited the most for realising the most cherished dream for a Petrol Pump in the region. Sources say that Saw Tathu, since being elected as Zilla Parishad member and Adhyaksh last year, has been continuously raising the demand at available platforms following which the administration ordered fast-track of the project.
EOI had earlier reported how residents of Mayabunder and adjoining areas were suffering due to lack of a Fuel Station in the headquarter region despite years of formation of the North and Middle Andaman District. Devoid of the facility, thousands of residents were forced to pay extra money for their fuel requirements from local petrol/diesel vendors, which ranged between Rs 9-10/- per liter for petrol and Rs 6-7/- per liter for diesel. Agencies accelerated efforts following the news report and the Fuel Station began trial operations in the month of January this year.
