KVK-CIARI celebrates Mahila Kisan Divas in Middle Andaman

Mahila Kisan Divas was celebrated with great zeal and enthusiasm along with rest of the nation on  October 15 at Panchayat Hall, Hari Nagar by ICAR-Krishi Vigyan Kendra, N & M Andaman with inauguratation by Ms. Sapna Mondal, Up Adhayaksha , Zilla Parishad, N & M Andaman, Ms. Nachiamma, Pramukh, Panchayat Samiti, Mayabunder, Ms. Uttam Mondal, Pradhan, Hari Nagar, Ms. Jayanta Nag. Pradhan, Swadesh Nagar, PRI members and others. Ms. Sapna Mondal appreciated the efforts of KVK for motivating the farm-women and spreading awareness about the key role of women in agricultural development. Ms. Nachiamma urged the farm women to form SHG’s and take up self- employment for increasing income of the family. Mr. Uttam Mondal and Mr. Jayanta Nag motivated the women to take up agripreneurship by availing government schemes.
Dr. Shailesh Kumar, Sr. Scientist & Head (i/c), KVK N&M Andaman spoke of the role of rural women in empowering Indian economy. Dr. Pooja Kapoor, SMS (Home Science), enlightened the gathering about the vital contribution of women in agriculture and allied sectors. Mr. D. Basantia SMS (Horticulture) spoke about gender diversification in horticultural crops and Dr. Shardul Vikram Lal, SMS(Animal Sc.) discussed about contribution of women in Pashu Palan. Motivational videos of successful women entrepreneurs were showed to the participants and  competitions like extempore and quiz were conducted for rural farm women with the help of Mr. B.L. Meena, SMS (Agronomy) and Mr. Prasant Pradhan, Programme Assistant.  65 farm-women from various panchayats participated in the programme with enthusaism .In the valedictory session prizes were distributed to the winners.
In the last week, KVK, N & M Andaman also organised 4 different training programmes for farmers and farm women at Long Island, Karmatang and Rampur on topics on Nutritional security through kitchen garden, off season cultivation techniques of vegetables, Preventive health management in aquaculture and Recent advantage in production technology of pulses in the field of Home Science, Horticulture, Fisheries and Agronomy respectively. 153 participants benefited from theses training programmes.
