LG inspects progress of works in NM Andaman

The Lt. Governor, A & N Islands, Admiral DK Joshi (retd) held a series of meetings with heads of government agencies and PRI members at Mayabunder in North Andaman to review the execution of developmental projects and take stock of concerns in the region on Wednesday. At different meetings held in the APWD Guest House here, the Lt. Governor held extensive deliberations with the officials and elected representatives of the Zilla Parishad, North and Middle Andaman. The Deputy Commissioner, North & Middle Andaman, Mr Arava Gopi Krishna, Adhyaksha, Zilla Parishad, North & Middle Andaman, Smt Kalpana Bain, other PRI members, Heads of Departments and Secretary to Lt. Governor, Dr. Ajay Kumar Singla were present in the meetings.
Welcoming the gathering, the Adhyaksha of Zilla Parishad, North and Middle Andaman raised a number of issues pertaining to the district viz. repair and maintenance of the national highway, installation of solar panels in government offices, shortage of engineers in Zilla Parishad, allocation of adequate funds to Zilla Parishad for development works in the road and building sector, development of parking lots, regular boat services in the Port Blair-Diglipur and Port Blair-Mayabunder sectors, construction of bridge at Nishchintapur village, opening of English department in Mahatma Gandhi Government College, Mayabunder and filling up posts of computer teachers in schools.
The Lt. Governor also inaugurated the newly constructed Office of the Deputy Commissioner, North & Middle Andaman at Lucknow, Mayabunder in the presence of the Secretary to Lt. Governor, Mr Ajay Kumar Singla, Deputy Commissioner, N&M Andaman, Mr Arava Gopi Krishna, Adhyaksha, Zilla Parishad, N &M Andaman, Smt. Kalpana Bain other PRI members and heads of departments. In his brief address, the Deputy Commissioner lauded the efforts of Andaman Public Works Department towards timely completion of the landmark building of the Deputy Commissioner’s office.
In the afternoon, the Lt. Governor visited Lalaji Bay, Long Island and inaugurated the newly constructed Cottage Huts of the Forest Department there. He also held a meeting with the PRI members at Forest Guest House, Long Island. Later in the afternoon, the Lt. Governor also visited Merk Bay Beach at North Passage Island.
