The former Pramukh of Mayabunder, Mr Abdul Siddique has demanded immediate steps for development of playground and mini stadium at Pokkadera in North Andaman. In a letter to the Deputy Commissioner of the district, Mr Siddique said that villagers in the area have been long demanding a playground, but the local administration did not take appropriate steps in this regard. Suggesting that the work for development of playground and mini stadium may be included in the annual plan for 2019-20, Mr Siddique said that the task of development of playground can be taken up under the MNREGA scheme for earth-filling while construction of mini stadium can be taken up at a later stage. He requested the Deputy Commissioner to issue necessary directions to the concerned authorities for allocation of funds for the project.  “The land for development of playground at Pokkadera was allocated way back in the year 2008 on survey no. 129/1. But since then, the execution of the project has been hanging fire.  Because of lack of proper playfield, budding sportspersons from these areas have failed to excel in different disciplines.  Development of playground will benefits youth from villages like Rampur, Pahalgaon, Chainpur, Pokkadera etc besides the headquarter region of the district. Moreover, the playground will be boost for organizers from Diglipur to Baratang to host district level sports tournaments,” said Mr Siddique speaking to EOI.
