The Adhyaksh, Zilla Parishad, North and Middle Andaman, Saw Thathu, recently, chaired a meeting of all elected Panchayati Raj Institution members of the region to discuss modifications in the plan proposals by the local government. According to reports, the administration’s decision to curtail rural projects under various sectors may face serious opposition from the Panchayati Raj Institution bodies and the meeting held in the auditorium of the Zilla Parishad, North and Middle Andaman has resolved to protest against the decision, which according to them, will seriously hamper development in the remote region.
“As per the earlier arrangement, there were around 100-150 works allocated under different sectors like roads, water etc. But the administration has cut down the works to just 4 per sector which means than only 10-12 projects will be implemented in a year under different sectors. Such decision will have a serious effect on the development of the North and Middle Andaman region and we all are united to oppose this move,” said a PRI member from Middle Andaman.
According to sources, all elected PRI members from the district have unanimously resolved to submit a memorandum to the Lt. Governor, A & N Islands demanding immediate withdrawal of  the amendment in the plan schemes, failing which, all offices under the North and Middle Andaman Zilla Parishad and PRI bodies will observe a day’s boycott to protest against the decision. The meeting also resolved that in the event the administration fails to address the concern with a stipulated period all PRI members will stay away from official functions.
