Let down by authorities concerned, villagers in North Andaman particularly from Rampur and Karmatang have now decided to hold a road blockade at Danapur Junction on March 12, 2018. The strike intimation has also been served to the Deputy Commissioner and concerned authorities in the district, according to reports.
Battered road network, poor telecom services and irregular supply of LPG refills has been taking a toll on villagers from Rampur and Karmatang in North Andaman. In a letter signed by more than 500 villagers and submitted to the Deputy Commissioner of North and Middle Andaman recently, the villagers had invited the attention of the authorities towards the problems being faced by villagers and had intimated that a massive road blockade will be held if the issues were not addressed within 10 days.
School students, elderly and women have been facing the brunt of poor road network from Danapur Junction to Mahatma Gandhi Govt. College and from Mahatma Gandhi Govt. College to Karmatang-IX. Other major demands raised by villagers include consistent BSNL connectivity, timely distribution of cooking gas and permission for collection of minor forest produce in the region.
