The Congress today appointed former IPS officer Ajoy Kumar as its Jharkhand unit chief and Alamgir Alam as the CLP leader in the state.
The eastern state goes to poll in late 2019. "Congress vice president Rahul Gandhi has approved the name of Ajoy Kumar as the new Jharkhand PCC chief and Alamgir Alam as the CLP leader of Jharkhand Congress Legislature Party," a statement by party general secretary Janardan Dwivedi said. Kumar is former Lok Sabha MP from Jamshedpur.
The Congress vice president also approved a list of five zonal coordinators, seven organisational and election-related committees of the state unit.
The five zonal coordinators who have been appointed are Rama Khalkho, Ashok Choudhary, Kamlesh Mahto, Sultan Ahmad, Bhim Kumar. They will not contest the Jharkhand Assembly elections, the statement said.
Gandhi also formed a campaign committee headed by former Union minister Subodh Kumar Sahay, a coordination committee chaired by K N Tripatthi and a manifesto committee chaired by Jai Prakash Gupta, it added. (PTI)
