Rs. 1856.44 cr after 2014 to strengthen coastal security mechanism in ANI

The Ministry of Home Affairs, Government of India has been implementing Coastal Security Scheme in phases since 2005, with a view to strengthen capacity and infrastructure of Coastal Police for patrolling and surveillance of coastal areas, particularly in the shallow areas close to the coast. Under the scheme, sanction was issued for provision of 20 Coastal Police Stations (CPS), 10 Jetties, 38 four wheelers, 40 two wheelers and 10 Marine Operation Centres (MOC) for Andaman & Nicobar Islands. As on date, the UT Administration of Andaman & Nicobar Islands (ANI) has operationalized all the sanctioned CPS, Jetties and MOCs and procured the entire fleet of four wheelers and two wheelers. The Government of India has provided 12 numbers of 12 Ton boats to the UT Administration for patrolling and surveillance of coastal areas. In addition, 23 numbers of Rigid Inflatable Boats and 10 numbers of large vessels have been sanctioned under the scheme, informed the Raksha Rajya Mantri, Dr. Subhash Bhamre in a written reply to Mr Bishnu Pada Ray in Lok Sabha on Wednesday.
A total of 128 major works amounting to Rs 1856.44 crore pertaining to A&N Islands have been sanctioned by the Ministry of Defence after June 2014. Accordingly, 45 works have been sanctioned for Port Blair for an amount of Rs 88556.46 lakh, 05 for Diglipur for an amount of Rs 10975.18 lakh, 09 for Campbell Bay for an amount of Rs 9691.33 lakh, 03 for Shibpur for an amount of Rs 5613.88 lakh, 06 for Kamorta for an amount of Rs 8616.02 lakh, 01 for Hut Bay for an amount of Rs 1662 lakh, 08 for Minnie Bay for an amount of Rs 2439.81 lakh, 01 for Neil Island for an amount of Rs 884.39 lakh, one each for Buniyadabad, Dollygunj and Dweepika for an amount of Rs 482.28 lakh, 34.88 lakh and 269.90 lakh respectively, 28 for Car Nicobar for an amount of Rs 48843.56 and 19 for Brichgunj Military Station for an amount of Rs 7574.67 lakh. An amount of Rs.1638.41 crore was sanctioned for works between 2009 to 2014 and Rs.1856.44 crore between 2014-18. (PIB)
