Lack of timely repair and maintenance has left the road stretches in Nimbutala, Middle Andaman battered forcing commuters to have back-breaking rides. Villagers claim that the uneven and eroded road network connecting different hamlets in the region had become a source of torment for motorists and pedestrians as many of them suffered fatal falls in the past. However, the authorities concerned in the district administration have so far failed to initiate steps to provide respite to the strained population.
“The appalling state of roads at Nimbutala deters motorists and there have become literally unmotorable as massive potholes leave marginal space for the motorists to negotiate with. More than road, the stretch should be referred as mud racing tracks and driving is a real challenge out here. There have been instances when vehicle owners have suffered damages while dealing on these pothole laden stretches. Villagers here are infuriated over the state of affairs, but the authorities have failed to address the situation,” lamented some villagers.
