A newly inducted BJP member was attacked with sharp weapons allegedly by Trinamool Congress workers at Basudebpur village under Hemtabad police station on Saturday night. Enamul Hoque, (35) alleged that he was attacked after joining BJP in presence of the party president Dilip Ghosh at a public meeting held in Islampur on Saturday.
Trinamool Congress leadership, however, rubbished the allegation and blamed a personal clash over land-issues for the incident. Hoque said that he along with 200 Congress workers joined BJP and was handed over the saffron flag by state BJP president Dilip Ghosh in presence of central health & family welfare minister JP Nadda on Saturday.
“While returning my village with my friend Kurman Ali on a two-wheeler, the Trinamool backed miscreants stopped us and opened fire. After the bullets missed target, they took out sharp weapons and hit my chest and abdomen,” Hoque said. Other villagers rushed to the spot and admitted Hoque to Hemtabad block primary health centre initially. Later, he was referred to Raiganj super specialty hospital.
District BJP leaders alleged that it was a bare example of Trinamool’s violent attack against a BJP worker out of scare. Prafulla Burman, a local Trinamool leader, on the contrary, denied the allegation. “We have heard that Hoque had a dispute with some local youths over ownership of a land. Hence, he was injured when a clash occurred between them,” Burman said claiming BJP leaders were trying to defame the ruling party. Police said that a probe was initiated into the matter.
