Venkaiah Naidu may be the next Vice-President of India. The “think tank” of the BJP is keen on his candidature as they think this will help the party electorally in Telangana and Andhra.  The focus of the BJP is now on southern India, after having its major hold on Northern India except Bihar and Punjab. According to sources, Narendra Modi will propose his candidature for the Vice-President’s post because he and the RSS want to capture power in south India too. The other names in discussion are Sushma Swaraj, Najma Heptulla and Hukmdev Narayan Yadav. The buzz is that the BJP “think tank” may also consider Najma Heptulla as a candidate as in the party’s reckoning the triple talaq issue and her candidature together will be a formidable plus point in attracting the support of Muslim women in elections.

ATROCITIES AGAINST DALITS INCREASING IN UP

“UP mein agar rehna hoga to Yogi yogi kehna hoga’ is the latest slogan in Uttar Pradesh. In bureaucracy & political circles, it is being subtly hinted that  Yogi has no power to make decisions. Every time he has to take permission from the party high command for policy making and administrative decision. Yogi has had no administrative experience before becoming the UP CM.   After he took over as the CM, atrocities against  Dalits and Muslims have increased. Atrocities are taking place regularly against Dalits and Muslims. Recently a man was killed in alleged caste clashes at a village in the  Saharanpur area in the north-west of the state.  Twenty-five Dalit houses were set ablaze in retaliation. Reacting to the violence, Yogi dityanath said : “I can say with confidence that everyone will be safe in the state without any discrimination and rule of law is the priority of the state government”. The Akhil Bhartiya Dalit Muslim Mahasangh has strongly condemned the incident and demanded immediate suspension of Superintendent of Police, Saharanpur and appealed to Chief Minister to conduct an inquiry into the incident. He further demanded full protection for Dalit families and compensation for those who were killed and injured in the incident. Meanwhile the members of the  Hindu Yuva Vahini keep going to the mosques in their areas raising provocative slogans.

SONIA APPROACHES NAVEEN THROUGH YECHURY

Odisha’s chief minister Naveen Patnaik once had great ties of friendship with Rajiv Gandhi and Sonia Gandhi and the bond was so formidable that together three of them used to hang around, partying a lot, but later, with their entries into active politics, the bond of friendship turned to a wide gap between them which could never be bridged up. But a latest  twist to this background is that Sonia Gandhi herself has asked Sitaram Yechuri to talk to Naveen to support the Opposition-led Presidential candidate  for the  elections in July this year.Yechury has started the dialogue process with him.
