110 units of blood collected from volunteers at Brichgunj Military Stn.

The Andaman & Nicobar AIDS Control Society organised a Voluntary Blood Donation Camp (VBD Camp) in association with Military Station, Brijgunj on Friday. Around 110 units of blood were collected from the volunteers during the camp.. The VBD camp was conducted under the leadership of Dr. M Joy, Project Director, A & N AIDS Control Society and the Director , State Blood Transfusion Council and facilitated by the Dr. Ganesh Samadder, Deputy Director (Blood Safety), ANACS. Donors were informed on blood donation criteria, blood safety and post donation care.  The blood donation camp was organised with an objective to achieve 100% voluntary blood donation by 2020.
The technical team from Blood Bank, G B Pant Hospital and ANACS ensures that the donated blood units are screened for transmissible diseases. They also examined the donors for eligibility for blood donation and briefed the donors on various aspect and importance of blood donation. The deferring of donors was done on the basis of disease or deficiency; and they were advised to correct it before embarking on next blood donation camp. The camp was conducted in a befitting manner. ANACS will also organize a voluntary blood donation camp at Govt. Model Senior Secondary School, Port Blair tomorrow in association with Lions Club Andaman and NHIDC ltd., Port Blair and another at Dr. B. R. Ambedkar Auditorium, Port Blair in association with Sundarapandiyanar Youth Welfare Association, Port Blair on July 15.
