1400 students rally to generate awareness on road safety

The Andaman and Nicobar Police is observing the 30th Road Safety Week from Jan 7 by conducting various activities to increase awareness about the road safety among the population. In this series, a Road Safety Walk was organized on Wednesday, which was flagged off by the Director General of Police, Mr Dependra Pathak from Cellular Jail. The walk culminated at Netaji Stadium after passing through vantage points in the city.
Around 1400 students from various schools and institutions participated by holding banners, placards with slogans related to traffic safety rules. Besides school children, college students, NCC cadets, sport authority faculty, police personnel and general public showed their concern and solidarity for Road Safety by participating in the rally in large number.
The Director General of Police, Mr Dependra Pathak and other senior officers of A&N Police, Police Band and Pipe Band walked along with students in the rally. Addressing the participants, the DGP said that the students can make a lot of difference if they start pointing out if anyone known to them violates any traffic rule. He further said that the safe driving is the responsibility of the individual towards general public.
Moreover, lectures were organised in various educational institutions. Sub Inspector Thomas Kutty and Sub Inspector Dinesh Meena along with traffic staff visited schools and interacted with students. Around 250 students of Govt. Girls. Sr. Sec. School and Carmel Sr. Sec. School were sensitized on basic traffic rules.
