In another shocking case of child abuse, a 16-year-old was found mother of a newborn recently. The incident came to light when the girl, identified as a student of a local school, went to GB Pant Hospital with the infant in a critical condition. After receiving information, the District Child Protection Unit has requested the Deputy Superintendent of Police, South Andaman to conduct an inquiry into the incident, informed sources.
As per initial reports, the 16 year old delivered a premature baby around six months ago. After discovering the girl to be pregnant, the mother of the 16 year old shifted from their native place at Mithakhari to a rented accommodation at Brookshabad where she delivered the child. But after the child developed some health complications, the mother got her admitted to GB Pant Hospital.
The member of UT Commission for Protection of Child Rights, Rubina Siddique, confirming the incident and informed that members of the Child Rights Commission met the 16 year old and her mother at GB Pant Hospital. “The family claims that the girl is 20 years old, completed her and got married to a contract employee of the Health Department, but could not produce any documents in support of their claim. Being doubtful, we’ve communicated about the incident to the police and the District Child Protection Unit. Further investigation is underway,” she informed.
