2nd phase of crocodile census from June 23

The Department of Environment & Forests, Andaman & Nicobar Administration is conducting the 2nd phase of crocodile census in the territory of Andaman & Nicobar Islands on 23rd and 24th June, 2017 to estimate the population of Salt water crocodile in the coastal water during the monsoon season. The population estimation studies will give an idea about the density, the areas in which they inhabit, size, classes viz. yearlings, juvenile, sub-adult and also their sex ratio including breeding females. The census detail will be used in management of crocodile related issues in the Islands. Census will be conducted during day time on 23rd June, 2017 and during night hours on 24th June, 2017.
Besides, departmental staff/workers, students from colleges, general public, wildlife enthusiasts, volunteers, NGOs, PRI members will be involved in the census operation. Those who are willing/interested to participate in the exercise voluntarily may contact the nearest Divisional Forest Officer before 20th June, 2017 and register their names.
