64th All India Coop. Week celebrations get underway

The 64th All India Cooperative Week Celebration 2017 under the main theme “Empowering people through Digitalization of Cooperative” and sub-theme “Good Governance and Professionalization through Cooperative” was inaugurated on Tuesday by Smt Rashmi Singh, Secretary (Cooperation)-cum-Registrar of Cooperative Societies, A & N Administration in the premises of Andaman and Nicobar State Cooperative Union. The week-long programme is being organised by the Cooperation Department, A & N Administration in association with A & N State Cooperative Union and other Cooperative Institutions. Smt Singh hoisted the Cooperative flag and visited various stalls of the SHGs and garlanded the portrait of Pandit Jawahar Lal Nehru. The programme was also attended by Mr. T.N. Meena, DRCS, Mr. Kuldeep Rai Sharma, Chairman, A & N State Cooperative Union, Officials of Cooperative Department, Representatives of various Apex level Cooperative Institutions, Senior Cooperators, Media persons, SHG members and a large gathering.
Today being the birth anniversary of Pt. Jawahar Lal Nehru, November  14 is an appropriate day to launch the Cooperative Week celebration along with the Children’s Day, said Smt Singh. “The examples of AMUL  and Lizzat pappad as successful cooperative entrepreneurs and the local administration too has launched several schemes for promotion of handicraft and various other products which will be of immense useful to the cooperative groups,” she said urging the A & N State Coop. Union to add new modules like PowerPoint Presentation courses in their computer courses. Smt Singh also appreciated the demand driven works of SHGs, which, according to her, will yield business opportunities for them. Ms. Rashmi Singh and Mr. T. N. Meena, DRCS handed over the certificates to the successful candidates of Computer, Tailoring/Fashion Designing and Beautician courses.
Mr. Surender Nath Singh, Project Officer, NCUI informed all present that theseven- day event will be held at different places to promote Cooperative movement across the Islands. Dr. N. Rajavel, HOD, Commerce, JNRM spoke on the topic, ‘Good Governance and Professionalisation’ outlining various Regulations in cooperative sector, introduction of Accountancy and Cost Management courses at JNRM, gist of Cooperative Governance, means of Strengthening Cooperatives by transparency and accountability, parameters of professionalisation and pointed that Governance means maximum utilization. He also talked on Advisory Committees to guide the Coop. societies comprising of Directors, academicians, consumers and financial Institutions, appreciating the effort the A &N State Cooperative Union for leading the Cooperative movement across the Islands by imparting knowledge to various beneficiaries.  
Mr. Abdul Rasheed, ARCS spoke on ‘Good Governance and Professionalization’ by highlighting the seven basic principles of cooperative movement which are open and voluntary membership, Member’s democratic Control, Member’s economic participation, Independence and Autonomy, Information training and Education, Cooperation in Cooperatives and Concern for Community. Mr. Anant Rao, General Secretary, A & N State Coop. Union, proposed the vote of thanks.
