A 17 year old girl from Diglipur was referred to GB Pant Hospital with the complaints of swelling of abdomen for the last few  months. She was not able to attend her studies due to her illness. She was examined and investigated; whole of abdomen was enlarged and distended due to a very large ovarian tumour. The parents were explained about the surgical procedure and it was planned to remove the tumour  laparoscopically. They were also apprised about the chances of converting to opening the abdomen in case laparoscopic attempt did not succeed as the tumour was too big. She was operated on 22 June by a team of doctors comprising Dr SK Kathpalia and Dr Rupali Tambe, along with assistance from OT matron Laxhmi; under anaesthesia by Dr Anil Kumar and Dr Avinash. The operation was completed  laparoscopically, after decompression of tumour by first removing the fluid. She made very good postoperative recovery and was discharged from hospital three days after surgery and sutures were removed and the wound has healed completely. Microscopic examination of the tumour was performed by Dr Chitrawati Gargade and fortunately the tumour is benign.
