AAC spreads awareness on conservation of Andaman Teal

Andaman Avian Club (AAC) organised a two-day bird watching event for the conservation of Andaman Teal and its habitat at South Andaman recently. The event was fully funded by Wildlife Trust of India under their Rapid Action Project to spread awareness on Andaman Teal, an endemic species of duck found only in the Andaman Islands which is facing high risk of habitat destruction in the South Andaman region.
The event was conducted at Sippighat wetlands which recorded the presence of 54 Andaman Teal individuals while 368 individuals were recorded on the event held at Ograbranj Wetlands. Mr Naveen Kumar, DCF spoke about the importance of Andaman teal and preserving its habitat to the participants. Mr. Suresh Vengappan, Ranger (Wildlife Division), South Andaman was also present on the occasion.
