In a major respite for several engineers in the Zilla Parishad, a proficient team of bureaucrats in the UT administration resolved the deadlock over uniform implementation of the transfer policy. Despite definite policy in force, many engineers of the Zilla Parishad in the South Andaman and North and Middle were upset over extended tenures of several years. However, the present top brass of the Administration led by the Chief Secretary, Mr Anindo Majumdar, Principal Secretary, Mr Rajiv Yaduvanshi, Secretary, Rural Development/PRI and ULB, Mr Udit Prakash Rai, following persistent requests by the Adhyaksh, Zilla Parishad, South Andaman, Mr Jaydeep Dey, has reportedly approved the proposal for implementation of a uniform transfer policy for the engineers of the Zilla Parishad. Sources say that the Administration has also approved transfer of junior engineers of the engineering wing of Zilla Parishad from the Directorate of Panchayat.
“Uniform implementation of the transfer policy for the engineers of Zilla Parishad was a long pending issue. While all officials in different departments of the administration are transferred and posted as per the circular of the administration, the engineering fraternity of the  Zilla Parishad were forced to remain posted at their respective divisions from South Andaman to remote pockets of these islands for years. For instance, a draughtsman posted  in South Andaman Zilla Parishad managed to remain posted in the South Andaman region for years owing to her  top connections while her counterparts served remote postings. The initiative of the Sdministration to implement a uniform transfer policy for Zilla Parishad engineers has brought smiles to several engineers of the Parishad,” said a Zilla Parishad official requesting anonymity.
