The rally organized by the Local Born Association (LBA) supported by other social organizations received overwhelming support from the people, said the president LBA, Dr Prem Kishen on Thursday. Addressing a press conference, he  informed that a four-member delegation led by him and consisting of Mr M. Liyakat Ali, general secretary, LBA, Mr N.Yusuf, president, AMSO and Mr Abdul Siddique, general secretary AMSO met the Lt. Governor on Wednesday and handed over the letter of demand insisting an Inner line permit and property tax abolition. “There is some confusion relating to implementation of Prof. Shekhar Singh Commission recommendation particularly Inner Line Permit system. We’ve offered to submit the order of the Supreme Court of India directing the Andaman and Nicobar Administration to implement the recommendation of Prof. Shekhar Singh's Commission to the Lt. Governor,” said Dr Kishen.
“The Lt. Governor stated that he cannot offer any assurance as of now but informed that action plan is being prepared to deal with the influx of Bangladeshi population here. During the meeting, the Lt. Governor has assured to send a strong recommendation to the Union Government for implementation of the Inner Line Permit system as per the recommendations of Prof. Shekhar Singh Commission.”
On the issue of property tax, the Lt. Governor opined that the new tax system will end inspector raj as people will be able to calculate taxes themselves. He, however, said that it’s up to the civic body to consider any amendments in the tax system in the interest of the people, said Dr Kishen.
