Agromet Advisory Bulletin

The Central Island Agricultural Research Institute has released the agromet bulletin for farmers for the period from December 6 to 10. In the bulletin, CIARI forecast cloudy weather with moderate to heavy rainfall in the next five days. In South Andaman 187 mm of rainfall, in North and Middle Andaman 150 mm of rainfall and in Nicobar Island 167 mm of rainfall is expected during the period. The maximum temperature will be 30 to 32 degree centigrade with minimum temperature of 23 to 25 degree centigrade, whereas the maximum and minimum relative humidity is expected to be in the range of 72 to 83% and 65 to 78%, respectively in Andaman and Nicobar Islands. Wind speed of 7 to 43 kmph is expected from South Easterly direction.
Farmers in South Andaman have been advised to make channels in the vegetable field to drain out excess water and avoid applying any chemical or fertilizers as rainfall is expected, harvest the mature banana and provide support to the fruit bearing banana tree to avoid losses due to the wind pace, harvest the matured arecanut and collect fallen nuts as the wind speed may rise up to 43 km/h and keep goats in raised platform under warm condition and provide light to the chicks during cloudy days as moderate to heavy rainfall is expected.
