Agromet advisory bulletin

The Central Island Agricultural Research Institute has released the agromet bulletin for farmers for the period from Jan 17 to 21, 2017. In the bulletin, CIARI forecast partly cloudy weather with light to moderate rainfall in the next five days. In South Andaman 25 mm of rainfall, in North and Middle Andaman 9 mm of rainfall and in Nicobar Island 62 mm of rainfall is expected during this period. The maximum temperature will be 30 to 31 degree centigrade with minimum temperature of 23 to 25 degree centigrade, whereas the maximum and minimum relative humidity is expected to be in the range of 70 to 80 % and 65 to 74 %, respectively in Andaman and Nicobar Islands. Wind speed of 10 to 26 kmph is expected from North Easterly direction.
Farmers in South Andaman have been advised to transplant 40 to 45 days old seedling of brinjal at a spacing of 75 x 60 cm by making ridges of 25 cm height, do earthing up and hand weeding in cowpea, tomato and beans and provide mineral mixture @ 25 g per day for 3 weeks to the pregnant cows. In Nicobar, farmers have been advised to clean the crown of coconut tree, as well as community garden to avoid breeding and growth of pests and provide mineral mixture @ 25 g per day for 3 weeks to the pregnant cows.
