Agromet advisory bulletin for farmers

The Central Island Agricultural Research Institute has released the agromet bulletin for farmers for the period from Feb 17 to 21, 2018. In the bulletin, CIARI forecast partly cloudy weather with light rainfall in the next five days. In South Andaman 3 mm of rainfall, in North and Middle Andaman no rainfall and in Nicobar Island 45 mm of rainfall is expected during this period. The maximum temperature will be 30 to 34 degree centigrade with minimum temperature of 21 to 26 degree centigrade, whereas the maximum and minimum relative humidity is expected to be in the range of 66 to 80 % and 59 to 75 %, respectively in Andaman and Nicobar Islands. Wind speed of 4 to 19 kmph is expected from North Westerly direction. Weather based agro advisories from 17th to 21st February 2017:
Farmers of South Andaman have been advised to spray 3 % Neem oil to control caterpillar in leafy vegetables as the weather is conducive, for growth of this pest, do earthing up and hand weeding in cowpea at 20 to 25 days after sowing and provide electrolyte power in drinking water to poultry birds to prevent heat stress during day times. In Nicobar, farmers have been advised to clean the crown of coconut tree, as well as community garden to avoid breeding and growth of insects and fungal pest and provide electrolyte power in drinking water to poultry birds to prevent heat stress during day times.
