Agromet bulletin for farmers

The Central Island Agricultural Research Institute here has forecast partly cloudy weather in the next five days. In its agromet bulletin for farmers for the period from March 15-19, 2017, CIARI forecast no rainfall during the period in South Andaman, in North and Middle Andaman and in Nicobar Island. The maximum temperature will be 30 to 33 degree centigrade with minimum temperature of 23 to 24 degree centigrade, whereas the maximum and minimum relative humidity is expected to be in the range of 62 to 74 % and 57 to 68 %, respectively in Andaman and Nicobar Islands. Wind speed of 4 to 16 kmph is expected from North Westerly direction, the bulletin said.
Farmers in Andaman region have been advised to spray Mancozeb @ 0.2 % at 15-20 days intervals to control downy mildew in cauliflower and cabbage, mulch the interspaces of vegetables with crop residue or paddy straw to conserve soil moisture as no rainfall is expected during next five days, apply tar or white wash around the base of the coconut and arecanut tree and provide drip irrigation to save the tree and provide electrolyte power in drinking water to poultry birds to prevent heat stress during day times.
