Agromet bulletin for farmers

The Central Island Agricultural Research Institute has forecast cloudy weather with light to moderate rainfall in the next five days. In the agromet bulletin for the period from April 8-12, CIARI forecast 82 mm of rainfall in South Andaman, 17 mm of rainfall in North and Middle Andaman and 144 mm of heavy rainfall in Nicobar Island during the period. The maximum temperature will be 30 to 34 oC with minimum temperature of 25 to 27 oC, whereas the maximum and minimum relative humidity is expected to be in the range of 71 to 77 % and 68 to 72 %, respectively in Andaman and Nicobar Islands. Wind speed of 9 to 15 kmph is expected from North Westerly direction.
Farmers in South Andaman have been advised to avoid supplemental irrigation to vegetable crops as rainfall is expected, fix 4 to 5 light traps per acre and fill 1/4th of the container with water and add 5 ml kerosene to control coconut leaf eating caterpillar, collect and chop the available unwanted organic materials and fill the vermicompost tank for compost preparation and provide amprolium oral medicine and sulfa drugs to poultry and local chicken after consultation with veterinary doctors to control coccidiosis disease.  In Nicobar, farmers have been advised to fix 4 to 5 light traps per acre and fill 1/4th of the container with water and add 5 ml kerosene to control coconut leaf eating caterpillar and provide amprolium oral medicine and sulfa drugs to poultry and local chicken after consultation with vertinary doctors to control coccidiosis disease.
