Agromet bulletin for farmers

The Central Island Agricultural Research Institute has forecast cloudy weather with moderate rainfall in the next five days. In its agromet bulletin for the period from May 20-24, CIARI forecast 104 mm of rainfall in South Andaman, 72 mm of rainfall in North and Middle Andaman and 205 mm of heavy rainfall in Nicobar Island during the period. The maximum temperature will be 29 to 33 degree centigrade with minimum temperature of 24 to 27 degree centigrade, whereas the maximum and minimum relative humidity is expected to be in the range of 71 to 83 % and 66 to 77 %, respectively in Andaman and Nicobar Islands. Wind speed of 12 to 30 kmph is expected from South Westerly direction.
Farmers in South Andaman region have been advised to prepare the upland area for transplanting brinjal seedlings by giving 4-5 ploughing manually and apply organic manure before final preparation, prepare nursery for arecanut and coconut by selecting good variety like mangla and king (orange, yellow, green) respectively, clean weeds and wild fishes from nursery ponds and provide clean and hygienic water treated with potassium permanganate (1 ppm) to the poultry and local chickens to avoid gastrointestinal infection.
