Agromet bulletin for farmers

The Central Island Agricultural Research Institute has forecast cloudy weather with moderate to heavy rainfall is likely to occur in the next five days. In its agromet bulletin for the period from July 5-9, 2017, CIARI forecast 85 mm of rainfall in South Andaman, 105 mm of rainfall in North and Middle Andaman and 35 mm of light rainfall in Nicobar Island during the period. The maximum temperature will be 30 to 32 degree centigrade with minimum temperature of 24 to 26 degree centigrade, whereas the maximum and minimum relative humidity is expected to be in the range of 77 to 83 % and 72 to 77 %, respectively in Andaman and Nicobar Islands. Wind speed of 21 to 36 kmph is expected from South Westerly direction.
Farmers in South Andaman have been advised to prepare main field of rice by leveling and cleaning of bunds and maintain bund height at 25 to 30 cm, provide drainage facility in vegetable field as good amount of rainfall is expected, do breading of carps by using hormones during rainy days and prepare nursery ponds for stocking spawns and keep the piglet under brooding condition by providing light as moderate to heavy rainfall is expected during next five days. In Nicobar, farmers have been advised to clean the crown of coconut tree and the garden cut them into pieces and go for composting and provide clean and hygienic water treated with potassium permanganate (1 ppm) to the poultry birds to avoid gastrointestinal infection.
