Agromet bulletin for farmers

The Central  Island Agricultural Research Institute has forecast cloudy weather with moderate rainfall in these islands in the next five days. In its agromet bulletin for the period from July 8 to 12, 2017, CIARI forecast 75 mm of rainfall in South Andaman, 70 mm in North and Middle Andaman and 61 mm in Nicobar Island during the period. The maximum temperature will be 28 to 32o C with minimum temperature of 23 to 25 oC, whereas the maximum and minimum relative humidity is expected to be in the range of 76 to 79 % and 72 to 76 %, respectively in Andaman and Nicobar Islands. Wind speed of 20 to 34 kmph is expected from South Westerly direction.
Farmers in South Andaman have been advised to prepare the main field of rice after ploughing in green manure, avoid pesticide application during next five days and harvest the mature vegetables and take it to the nearby market, keep the goat in raised platform under warm condition and plant suitable fodder sapling in upland area as the soil condition is conducive. Planting material may be collected from CIARI, Port Blair. In Nicobar, farmers have been advised to plant pine apple suckers in upland area by digging 25 to 30 cm depth and maintain close spacing to avoid erosion and plant suitable fodder sapling in upland area as the soil condition is conducive.
