Agromet bulletin for farmers

The Central Island Agricultural Research Institute has released the agromet bulletin for farmers for the period from July 19 to 23, 2017. In a bulletin, CIARI forecast cloudy weather with moderate rainfall in the next five days. In South Andaman 83 mm of rainfall, in North and Middle Andaman 80 mm of rainfall and in Nicobar Island 65 mm of rainfall is expected during this period. The maximum temperature will be 28 to 30 degree centigrade with minimum temperature of 23 to 24 degree centigrade, whereas the maximum and minimum relative humidity is expected to be in the range of 80 to 84 % and 78 to 80 %, respectively in Andaman and Nicobar Islands. Wind speed of 22 to 35 kmph is expected from South Westerly direction.
Farmers in South Andaman have been advised to identify the rodent movement track in paddy field and place rodent trap accordingly to avoid the losses during ripening of the crops, do weeding in brinjal, okra and chilli grown in upland area and apply vermi-compost or farm yard manure @ 2.5 t/ha and use Banana stem and leaf as animal feed and feed milking cow @ 15 to 20 kg per day. In Nicobar, farmers have been advised to collect fallen coconut from the field and make pits at distance of 7.5 m for planting and use banana stem and leaf as animal feed and feed milking cow @ 15 to 20 kg per day.
