Agromet bulletin for farmers

The Central Island Agricultural Research Institute has released the agromet bulletin for the period from Aug 2 to 6, 2017. In the bulletin, CIARI forecast cloudy weather with light to moderate rainfall in the next five days. In South Andaman 40 mm of rainfall, in North and Middle Andaman 38 mm of rainfall and in Nicobar Island 65 mm of rainfall is expected during this period. The maximum temperature will be 29 to 33 degree centigrade with minimum temperature of 24 to 25 degree centigrade, whereas the maximum and minimum relative humidity is expected to be in the range of 82 to 84% and 77 to 82 %, respectively in Andaman and Nicobar Islands. Wind speed of 26 to 34 kmph is expected from South Westerly direction.
Farmers in South Andaman have been advised to close the bunds in paddy field and store the rain water as light rainfall is expected. Transplant paddy seedlings after proper land leveling and clip top of the seedlings to avoid stem borer attack, do hand weeding and  earthing up in vegetable field and apply vermicompost @ 5 tones/ha, collect and destroy the affected fruits of cucurbits and spray neem oil @ 3.0 % during rain free days to manage fruit fly and avoid grazing of animal during peak sunshine hours and provide them shelter as temperature is rising. In Nicobar, farmers have been advised to do intercultural operation in vegetable field as the weather is conducive and avoid grazing of animal during peak sunshine hours and provide them shelter.
