Agromet bulletin for farmers

The Central Island Agricultural Research Institute has released the agromet bulletin for the period from Nov 15 to 19, 2017. In the bulletin, CIARI forecast partly cloudy weather with light to moderate rainfall in the next five days. In South Andaman 40 mm of rainfall, in North and Middle Andaman 47 mm of rainfall and in Nicobar Island 67 mm of rainfall is expected during the period. The maximum temperature will be 30 to 31 degree centigrade  with minimum temperature of25 to 27 degree centigrade, whereas the maximum and minimum relative humidity is expected to be in the range of 72 to 78% and 68 to 73 %, respectively in Andaman and Nicobar Islands. Wind speed of3to 13kmph is expected from South Easterly direction.
Farmers in South Andaman have been advised to dry the rice to safe moisture level (10 to 12 %) to avoid fungal diseases, prepare the field for yearly sowing of cauliflower seeds @ 450 to 500 g/ha and apply farm yard manure during last ploughing, clean the poultry sheds with disinfection solution and water, spray lime surrounding area of poultry farm to avoid disease and feed the stocked freshwater Indian major carp with rice bran and ground nut oil cake at 1:1 ratio at the rate of 2% of body weight. In Nicobar, farmers have been advised to provide drainage channel to the vegetable field to avoid stagnation of water as rainfall is expected and clean the poultry sheds with disinfection solution like savlon and water spray lime surrounding area of poultry farm to avoid disease.
